Laurence Hingerton (better known as Larry),

“Woodlands " Quay Road, Westport and formerly of Ballinrobe - peacefully at his residence on April 10th 2022.

Predeceased by his daughter Sharon.

Larry will be sadly missed by his loving wife Valerie (nee Duckworth late of Rosbeg, Westport ), daughters Carol (Dublin) and Stephanie (Westport), son Shane (Madrid), sons-in-law Sean Burke and Antonio Braz, daughter-in-law Marta, grandchildren Jessica, Hannah, Jack, Iselia, Emma and Aaron, great-grandchildren Leo and Max, brothers Chris (Ballinrobe), Raymond (UK), Noel (Seattle, USA), sister Betty (Florida USA), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May his gentle soul rest in peace

Requiem Mass will take place this Wednesday evening (April 13th) at 7 o’clock in St. Mary's Church, Westport.

Removal from his residence on Thursday (April 14th) at 12.30 for burial in Aughavale Cemetery via Westport Quay..

God rest his gentle soul, Larry was one of those people it is an absolute tribute to meet! I remember as a kid getting my haircut and also to be entertained whilst jazz was played at various venues around Westport. My last memory of Larry will remain though, playing and engaging with children outside the West Pub during Steven Walshes funeral as hundreds walked up Bridge St. Saying their final farewell to a young man passing before his time. I'm sure they are both reunited now with many more characters probably having a singsong together.

We will miss him so much as we have been next door neighbours and firm friends for over forty years and I will always regard the Hingerton family as “neighbour s from Heaven”. Larry was the nicest ,kindest most generous neighbour with his wife Valerie that you could wish for.
We share a long hedge between our properties and Larry would have trimmed the hedge with a hand clipper from end to end while I was at work and he would have raked up the trimmings.Nothing would stop him, he was a bundle of energy. A number of years ago I got him to hang up his clippers and I purchased a petrol hedge trimmer so we agreed that I would cut the hedge and he would cut my hair which he had been doing for forty years plus but as my hairline receded Larry was getting the best part of the deal.We will miss our dear friend so much.
I’m sure Larry will be playing his trumpet as part of the heavenly orchestra.

Sorry to hear of Larry's passing.I'll always have great memories of him going way back. When he first came to town in the early fifties and set up his business on Mill St. Of the time he saved me from the rampaging cattle on a fair day when I was just a toddler on that same street. Larry's first passion was music but he also had a keen interest in boxing. He was hugely involved in the setting up of St Anne's boxing club over fifty years ago. Was a great secretary and was no mean coach. There was always a rush for Larry's car when we were going to championships and boxing tournaments. When as he drove along he would keep our minds off the fights with some great stories. Yes a man for all season's one of the best, our deepest sympathy to Valerie and family. Many and many a haircut, I got from Larry, in Desmonds barber shop in Westport, back in the day, I always liked him to cut it as Larry was real good at it. Always in fine humour and we would have a great chat. An absolute gentleman and will be missed around Westport by all...I met him ,probably two years ago or more along the ball in Westport and we had a chat and indeed , I complimented him on his barber days, he did a bit of boxing and jazz in his time and told me all about it... Sorry to Hear Larry has gone to his eternal rest. He was a great character, back in the eighties he was our driver delivering the Mayo Post to the towns in Mayo. He used to practice playing the trumpet with the mouth piece while he waited for us to finish our street. And you wouldn't want to be slow! or you might hear a few new words in the English language. Five minutes later he would be cracking jokes again. He always called into his mother in Ballinrobe (last town on our deliveries) for the dinner, we used to wish she wouldn't give him desert as he was a slow eater. Great man, he looked after all the young lads. We used to get £1.50 for the day, we asked him if we should go on strike and look for £2, he said we should but not to say he agreed with us. We took his advise and managed to get a raise to £2 for the day....great times in his Hillman Hunter
