John Spelman,

Dublin Road, Ballaghaderreen, and late of St. Patrick's Street, Boyle, Co. Roscommon (September 17th 2021) – peacefully in the loving care of the management and staff of Oakwood Nursing Home, Ballaghaderreen.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Mona, brother Pat, sisters Mauve and Elsie.

He will be very sadly missed by his loving family, son Jack, daughter Cathy, sister Irene, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and his many friends in Oakwood and Spelman's Motel especially Bernie and Gay.

May He Rest In Peace

John will lie in repose at home Wednesday afternoon from 4 o'clock to conclude with evening prayer at 8 o'clock

Removal from his residence Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock to arrive at The Cathedral of The Annunciation and St. Nathy, Ballaghaderreen for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 o’clock.

Burial afterwards in Kilcolman Cemetery.

I had the privilege of staying with John in the Motel when I was repeating the Leaving Cert in St. Nathy's back in 1993/4. He looked after me like a King for the year I was in Spellmans and not only was he always such a gentleman, his hospitality and kindness will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, John.

So very sorry to have heard of the passing of John. Knew him for years as a close neighbour in St Patrick St. Boyle before he left for Ballaghaderreen 50 years ago with Mona, John and Cathy. John ran a terrific bar and grocery in Boyle. He was an outstanding businessman. But he was also a thorough gentleman. As kind and generous a person as you would ever encounter. Always jolly and good-humoured in his engagement with customers. I remember him very fondly and often think of those happy days on St Patrick St. during the decade of the 1960s when I got to know him there. John was a very special person. Boyle and Ballaghaderreen has lost a legend.
