
At the National Masters Indoor Championships on Sunday (January 30) at Athlone TUS Arena,
Mayo AC were represented by ten competitors in a total of 12 events: eight track and four field.
Lifting of restrictions coincided with entry deadline which may have had effect on numbers competing.
Congratulations to Mayo AC's medal winners, a total of eleven - 7 gold, two silver and 2 bronze - and to all their competitors. Regular club national medalists were joined by newcomers in excellent performances by all amid exciting action from 10am to 5pm, and a welcome return to live racing with spectators!

Mayo AC's eleven medal haul included a brilliant gold for John Brennan in 400 metres event in the M35 category. He was closing fast on race leader Rory Sheehan in the final metres, when the Monaghan Phoenix AC athlete stumbled and clipped the kerb, falling heavily just short of the line giving John the victory in 57:72. Fair play to John - his first concern was for Rory, who thankfully was ok though shaken and sadly finished 4th in 64:77.

Men 40 4x200m relay (8 teams, 2 heats) Mike Griffin M45 John Brennan M35 Keith Conroy M40 and Patrick Moran M65 (filling in at last minute forJason Cafferkey M40) finished a very creditable 4th in 1:53.16. Winners after the 2 heats were a jubilant Craughwell AC quartet in 1:39.22.
The next championship competition is the National Intermediate and Masters Cross-Country. It will be held at Castlelyons nr Fermoy on February 13.
