Rachels steps into the ring for her second professional fight is on the Friday next the 21st of February at 5 pm irish time in the SPACE Events and sports Dubai 2, her opponent is the tough Cameroonian Tsimi. Tsimi won silver in the African nationals last year. Fighting at Super Middleweight, the southpaw from Belmullet faces the fight of her life.
Sponsored by fellow Erris man Martin Maloney and the Capital Sky Group, Rachel will fight under the Irish flag in the tough six rounds pro fight.
Rachel Lally is daughter of Rosaleen and Michael Lally and joined the Golden Gloves Boxing Club at 14 and went on to win a National Title before following her dream to become a teacher.
Once qualified Rachel taught in London for a number of years before returning home to Belmullet during covid. During her time teaching in St Brendan’s College in Belmullet she qualified as a boxing coach and returned to her beloved Golden Gloves to help coach the underage boxers.
Boxing has been a huge part of Rachel's life, and she is honest about how it got her through some very tough times as a teenager. “Growing up in Erris and trying to find your place can be tough; boxing was my go-to place when I needed to express myself, find solace, and work through my challenges in life at the time. Loosing a few close friends to suicide had a huge impact on my teenage years; my mental health was challenged, but the support she received from her coach, Martin Mc Intire, and the entire team at Gloden Glove helped me focus on my personal goals and got me through those tough times.
I moved to Dubai to follow my urge to travel and joined the Spartan Boxing Club in Dubai where she reformed her love of boxing and when the opportunity arose earlier this year to turn professional, she grabbed it with both hands. Her first Pro fight was in November 2024 and finished in a split decision.
Competing at this level is really tough and requires huge dedication, but the support Rachel received from her Dubai community and from friends and family at home in Ireland gives her the drive to push on and follow her dream.
