14 counties from the four provinces of Ireland will take part in the 36th edition of the Lidl Comórtas Peile Páidí Ó Sé, with 28 adult men’s and ladies club teams coming for a weekend of competitive football and social events including popular Irish band Super Céilí at Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry, West Kerry.
A recent research study by Lidl revealed ahead of the 2025 Lidl National Leagues said 42% of Irish public more likely to attend female games to watch a high-profile player. The Comórtas certainly helps that statistic every year, the cream of GAA club football descend on West Kerry and this year sees many championship winning teams competing as well as many inter-county players on show once again which enhances the quality of football.
The football festival, which was founded by eight-time All-Ireland winner Páidí Ó Sé, is supported by Lidl Ireland, EJ Menswear, Kerry County Council Tourism Unit, Medel Healthcare, Dooctor.ie, Fáilte Ireland and Údarás na Gaeltachta, and has attracted over 30,000 club players since it was founded in 1989.
Comórtas Chairman, Pádraig Óg Ó Sé said; “We welcome all the Mayo ladies teams once again to West Kerry for the Comórtas. About 500 players and also mentors and supporters are in full planning mode to kick off their season with a weekend away and we are ready with social events and craic around Comórtas HQ Páidí Ó Sé’s pub and of course football lovers can also expect some great competitive matches over the weekend. We thank all our title sponsor Lidl who are a key driver of the growth of Ladies Gaelic games in Ireland through their LGFA sponsorship. They contribute every year to the vision my father had, which was to promote the club game and also to attract people to the beautiful Dingle Peninsula.”
Pádraig continued, “A special mention also to Kerry County Council Tourism Unit and Údarás na Gaeltachta who are backing us also to continue with the Comórtas, as they understand the big benefit in terms of local tourism. We are also delighted that fashion retailers EJ Menswear of Sligo, who are related to the Ó Sé family, are again partnering up with us to ensure it will be a weekend to remember.”
