
Tributes have been paid following the death of John McDonnell, the Mayo native who became the most successful coach in American college sporting history.
A native of Ardagh, he passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in Arkansas on Monday night.
Along with amassing 40 National Collegiate Athletic Association team championships, John McDonnell steered the careers of many Irish greats, including Frank O'Mara, Niall O'Shaughnessy, Niall Bruton, Alistair Craig and many others.
Niall Bruton has remembered him as "a great coach, mentor and man".
