Sligo stalwart Neil Ewing has announced his retirement from inter-county football at the age of 33.
The Drumcliffe-Rosses Point clubman made his senior debut for the county as a 19-year-old in 2008.
A long-serving player for Sligo, Ewing lined out in three Connacht SFC finals but success proved elusive as they lost to Roscommon in 2010 and Mayo on two occasions, in 2012 and 2015.
In a statement posted on Twitter, Ewing says injury influenced his decision to retire.
He also said that ‘Sligo can compete’ if the right structures are in place and he is looking forward to watching the current group of players do everything in their power to make sure that happens.
