The Chairman of Westport Hurling Club has paid tribute to the ‘main driving force’ behind the revival of hurling in Westport, the late Stephen Broderick Senior.
Stephen was a mainstay of the Westport GAA club in the 80s & 90s, overseeing the revival of hurling in town along with other club figures.
He was a player, coach, manager & mentor to numerous hurling teams and also assumed officer roles in Bord na nOg and other areas.
Stephen was also a central figure in the redevelopment of the club’s main pitch in 1985, where his home county Galway played a Mayo All Star selection in a hurling tournament game.
His Funeral Mass takes place in Westport on Thursday at 1pm and can be viewed on churchtv.ie/Westport.
