The body of a man in his fifties was discovered in the River Moy yesterday afternoon.
It is understood that a male entered the river at the Bachelor's Walk area in Ballina and a search and rescue effort was launched shortly after 12 noon.
After an extensive search of the river, a body was later recovered.
Gardai have confirmed to Midwest News that the death is being treated as a personal tragedy.
