The late Roscommon councillor Anthony Waldron will be laid to rest in East Mayo this afternoon.
Cllr Waldron, who was a long serving member of Roscommon County Council, died peacefully at his home in Ballintubber, County Roscommon on Sunday last. He was aged in his 60s.
Hundreds gathered at the Old School House in Ballintubber yesterday evening to pay their respects at his reposal.
Cllr Waldron will be remembered for his commitment to a number of local issues, including his promotion of local tourism and the Suck Valley Way, as well as his role in calling for better security for the people of Roscommon in the aftermath of a spate of burglaries last year across the county.
He will be sadly missed by his eight siblings, extended family and wide circle of friends.
Cllr Waldron’s Funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon today in St. Bride’s Church, Ballintubber, following which he will be brought closer to his former home of Carrowneaden where he will be laid to rest in Aghamore Cemetery.
