Cabinet has backed plans to increase the retirement age of Gardai­, Defence Force personnel, and Prison Officers.

Public Expenditure Minister Paschal Donohoe has given his support to the measures which he says will help in recruiting and retaining valuable expertise.

There will also be an increase in the maximum recruitment age for Defence Force personnel.
