
Following yesterday’s monthly meeting of Mayo County Council the following motion has been unanimously carried regarding the housing of refugees and International Protection Applicants in the county.
All co-operations will cease immediately between the staff of Mayo County Council and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth of Ireland.
This will last until such time as an agreed strategy is put in place to properly co-ordinate the provision of additional services for the communities hosting refugees and International Protection Applicants.
Services include medical, policing, accommodation, housing, education, transport and training among others and that delivery dates are set down for the roll out of these services.
Following a busy day at Aras an Chontae, Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley got the thoughts to some members of the public who attended the Council headquarters with concerns over plans for refugees and International Protection Applicants.
She spoke to a member of the HOME (Holistic Outlook on the Migration Emergency) organisation Liam Heffron, who gave his opinion on the fallout of the council meeting:
