Details

A man has been pronounced dead following a road collision in South Mayo this morning.

Two vehicles were involved in the impact on the R311 road near Hollymount between Claremorris and Ballinrobe.

 The man who died is understood to be the driver of one of the vehicles.

At least one other person has been rushed to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for treatment.

 The road has been closed to traffic as a forensic collision team carry out an investigation.

According to Gardai there have been a number of accidents in the South Mayo area this morning due to icy road conditions.
