
Minister Butler announces approval of €35 million for the delivery of new Community Nursing Unit in Clifden
The new build will allow for the provision of long-term care (currently provided in St. Anne’s) and convalescence and step-down care (currently provided in Clifden District Hospital) on the one site in a state-of-the-art facility.
It’s is planned to have a total of 40 beds that will comprise of 20 long-stay beds, 10 dementia-specific beds, and 10 short-stay beds including for respite and step-down care.
Welcoming the progress on delivery of this CNU, Minister Butler said: “I am really pleased to see the progress being made on the development of this new Community Nursing Unit which I know will be very much welcomed by the local community in Clifden.
Across the country, our HSE Community Nursing Units play a vital role in the provision of long-term care. It is essential that public investment in this infrastructure is maintained at a level which supports the highest standard of care. HSE Community Healthcare West received approval of €35.34m in the HSE’s 2023 Capital Programme for this important development. The HSE have advised that a design team has been procured and is developing the design with a view to progressing planning permission by October.”
