
Funeral details have been announced for the second man who lost his life following a road traffic collision during the Sligo Stages Rally yesterday.
Gene McDonald and Dara Maguire were competing in a Ford Escort rally car when the tragedy happened during the event on Sunday afternoon.
One of the men was driving while the other was acting as navigator.
Mr McDonald was from Cootehill in County Cavan while Mr Maguire was from Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh.
The crash occurred on a narrow country road near Ballymote, County Sligo at about 3:00pm.
Both men were well known in the Irish rally circuit both north and south of the border.
Gene McDonald is deeply regretted by his Mother Maureen and Father Eugene, his sisters Aine and Sinead and their families, his partner Justine and daughters Saoirse and Bonnie, and all the extended family.
He will repose at the family residence in Barraghy from 12 noon on Wednesday.
Removal on Friday morning to arrive at St. Mary's Middle Chapel for funeral mass at 12 noon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
