
Funeral details have been announced for one of the men who lost his life following a road traffic collision during the Sligo Stages Rally yesterday.
Gene McDonald and Dara Maguire were competing in a Ford Escort rally car when the tragedy happened during the event on Sunday afternoon.
One of the men was driving while the other was acting as navigator.
Mr McDonald was from Cootehill in County Cavan while Mr Maguire was from Lisnaskea in County Fermanagh.
The crash occurred on a narrow country road near Ballymote, County Sligo at about 3:00pm.
Both men were well known in the Irish rally circuit both north and south of the border.
Daire Maguire is survived by his wife Breda, and children Meghan and Christopher, as well as his parents and three siblings.
He will repose at Swift & McCaffrey Funeral Home, Brookeborough Road, Lisnaskea on Tuesday afternoon from 4:00pm until 9:00pm, and again on Wednesday from 4:00pm.
Removal takes place Wednesday evening at 8:00pm to repose at his parent’s house until removal Thursday morning at 10:30am.
Funeral will arrive at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newtownbutler for Requiem Mass at 11:00am.
Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
