An investigation is being launched in Sligo following the deaths of two men during the sixth stage of the Sligo Stages Rally.
Both competitors, a driver in his 30s and his passenger in his 40s were killed when their car hit a wall in the crash at Carrowcushcly in Ballymote at around 3pm.
Their bodies were later removed to Sligo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place.
Motorsport Ireland says it will liase with relevant authorities to find out how it happened.
Gardai are urging people not to share any footage of the crash on social media.
Sympathies have been extended to families and friends of the deceased, to members of Connacht Motor Club and anyone involved in organising today's event, which was eventually called off.
