
Fianna Fail councillor Al McDonnell was elected Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District yesterday evening.
He takes over at the helm from Independent councillor Michael Kilcoyne.
Cathaoirleach McDonnell, one of the longest serving councillors in the county, was elected unopposed for the position.
His political colleague Blackie Gavin was then elected, unopposed, as the Leas-Cathaoirleach of the district.
Cathaoirleach McDonnell spoke to Midwest News today and after Teresa O’Malley congratulated him on his new position she asked him how many times has he worn the chain in the district over his many years in politics….
