Councillor Ger Deere is advising the general public of a potential scam that he became aware of today after people from around Castlebar contacted him.
Mayo County Council is tarring roads locally and it appears that after the council workers leave, a group of persons in an English registered vehicle are reportedly approaching houses and indicate that they have materials left over from the road works and ask if the householder would like to get their drive tarred at a “good price”.
The councillor says these persons are not employed by Mayo County Council adding that the local authority does not operate in this way and warns that it is a possible scam.
He is advising people to be on the alert and if they are approached and feel uneasy to call An Garda Síochána immediately on 094 90 38200.
