
Tributes were paid to retired Garda Superintendent Joe McKenna at today’s county Joint Policing Committee .
Elected councillors described Joe as a great professional, with a practical approach to policing, who will be sadly missed and wished him the best of luck in his retirement.
The Castlebar based Superintendent was described as having a great commitment to the safety of the community of Mayo and always showed great respect.
Garda Chief Superintendent for the new Mayo/Roscommon/ Longford Garda Division, Raymond McMahon, also wished Joe health and happiness in his retirement.
He said he is a true friend and gentleman and had been totally invested in keeping the community safe, and his experience and compassion will be missed.
