ALDI has opened its new 7 million euro Ballyhaunis store this morning and 30 new jobs have been created.
The retailer's latest development is part of a 63 million euro west of Ireland expansion plan.
The German head-quartered supermarket now operates 158 stores around the country.
The official opening of the Ballyhaunis store, located on Upper Main Street, took place at 9 am this morning.
The store was officially opened in the presence of the local team and Store Manager Charlene Kilgallon.
For customers there’s product sampling at the new store opening today and a range of ALDI Specialbuys on sale.
With six stores now in Mayo, ALDI has made a capital investment of over €43 million in Mayo since opening its first Mayo store in 2007. The retailer currently employs over 130 people in Mayo with a €3.2 million total annual salary spend across its six stores in the county.
Additionally, ALDI has invested €1.6 million in Mayo as part of its Project Fresh initiative. ALDI Project Fresh stores focus on reducing the reliance on fossil fuels, using sustainable energy supply and saving CO2 emissions.
The store has been designed to be as environmentally friendly as possible, powered by green electricity and featuring solar panels on the roof of the store that will contribute towards the overall electrical demand for the store - powering items such as energy saving lights and ALDI’s new chiller fridges. It also features ALDI’s new Electronic Shelf Labels in store in place of traditional paper price labels, meaning that stock or price changes can easily and quickly be communicated to customers.
