The new Cathaoirleach of the Athlone Municipal District is Independent councillor Emer Kelly. First co-opted to Roscommon County Council in April 2021, she succeeds Fine Gael councillor John Naughten in the position.

The new Leas Cathaoirleach of the district is Independent councillor Laurence Fallon. 

Councillor Kelly defeated the only other nominee for the position, Independent councillor Donal Kilduff by four votes to two. Councillr Fallon defeated Independent councillor Tony Ward by a similar margin for the Leas Cathaoirleach role.

 Accepting the position, Cathaoirleach Kelly said growing investment in the Athlone MD area was having an impact on local communities but said challenges, such as the development of the N61 and flooding issues affecting Lough Funshinagh remained.

Before adjourning the meeting a proposal by Cllr. John Keogh for the creation of a Cathaoirleach’s chain of office for the Athlone MD area was agreed and the matter is to be considered by management in due course. 

Fine Gael councillor Liam Callaghan has succeeded  Fianna Fail John Cummins as Cathaoirleach of the Boyle MD area. The new Leas Cathaoirleach of the Boyle Municipal District is Independent councillor Tom Crosby.

Independent councillor Anthony Waldron  takes over from councillor Marty McDermott as Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon MD area. The new Leas Cathaoirleach of the Roscommon Municipal District is Fianna Fail councillor  Paschal Fitzmaurice.
