
Regardless of the Taoiseach’s commitment yesterday, Castlebar Cathaoirleach insists there won’t be any patients in a new Emergency Dept at Mayo University Hospital for three years at the earliest.
That’s the response of Cathaoirleach Michael Kilcoyne to Leo Varadkar’s statement yesterday that construction on a new Emergency Department at the Castlebar Hospital could get underway next year.
The Taoiseach was speaking to Midwest News at the opening of the new N5 dual carriageway yesterday morning, ahead of a private meeting between himself and management at the hospital.
Mayo county councillors had called on the Taoiseach to visit the hospital while in Mayo yesterday, in light of the serious ongoing, overcrowding at the emergency department.
