Details

Half of all retained firefighters are continuing to strike for a second day.

Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Crossmolina and Swinford all took their first day of strike yesterday, while Ballinrobe, Charlestown, Claremorris, Kiltimagh and Westport all begin their action today.

If a resolution to concerns over pay and conditions isn’t found by next Tuesday, all retained fire stations will close.

Firefighters last night walked out as Minister Darragh O’Brien addressed a Sinn  Fein motive on the issue in Dáil Éireann.

Over the last number of weeks, we’ve heard from Tom Kitterick of the Mayo Fire Service with updates on the industrial action.

He spoke to Midwest Radio’s Rian Bailey today LIVE from the fire station while he stood in protest with his colleagues:
