The need for more Teagasc advisors in county Mayo is being highlighted by a local Fine Gael deputy.
Currently, there is an average of 23 full time advisors and over 4000 clients in the county.
Deputy Micheal Ring says there are 4 offices in the county and yet many farmers are unable to get an appointment when they need assistance.
In response to a question from the TD, Teagasc said that “the allocation of advisors to different roles within the region is under ongoing review, based on workload needs across enterprises and across the region.
“The ACRES scheme in 2022 was an example of where a large increase in workload was met by additional resources, and that in that case, a total of nine additional staff were appointed to Mayo for the application period for this scheme”
