There is major disappointment today, as Mayo County Council has advised local councillors that the advance negotiations that had been underway for the sale of the former Imperial Hotel in Castlebar to a private developer have fallen through.
In September 2022, Castlebar councillors were informed by council management that an approach had been made by a commercial entity to purchase the former hotel at the Mall, in the county town for the purposes of establishing a new hotel.
Since that time, discussions took place with the interested party, the property was valued and Heads of Agreement for the sale of the property were drafted between the prospective purchasers and the local authority.
Mayo County Council has now been informed by the prospective purchasers that due to other current and pipeline projects being pursued by them, they have taken the decision not to progress the acquisition of the property.
Fine Gael councillor Cyril Burke says the news is very disappointing and he has been speaking to Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley this lunchtime....
