The National Transport Authority yesterday revealed plans to increase the bus service in Galway City.
This latest proposal will see an overhaul of the bus network for the city, as well a Bearna and Oranmore, resulting in a 50% increase in the overall bus service for the city.
Also included in the package, is the provision for Galway’s first 24 hour bus service route, which will be Route 9.
The works come as part of a number of movements on the public transport in Galway, such as the overall BusConnects Galway strategy, and also the BysConnects Dublin Road and BusConnects Cross-City Link.
Development of this project has been formatted in conjunction with Bus Éireann and the City Direct Bus company.
It is understood that this development will not only require significant investment in terms of staff and new vehicles, but will also see a redrawing of the bus route to accommodate more buses and make the run more efficient and easier for passengers.
Public consultation on the project is now open and will continue until Friday June 2.
