Over 4,000 children in counties Roscommon and Galway are currently on waiting lists for public eye examinations.
Of those, almost 2,796 have been waiting over a year for an appointment.
Roscommon based Independent Deputy Denis Naughten says these waiting lists are completely unacceptable and could potentially have huge implications for our children.
Deputy Naughten says these are children who may be experiencing difficulties in school in, for example, being able to see the board in class due to the fact that they cannot obtain an eye test.
Figures released to Denis Naughten show that 226 children are on the waiting list in Roscommon, 163 of whom have been waiting more than a year for an appointment while 3,782 children are on the waiting list in Galway with 2,633 of those waiting for more than a year.
Deputy Naughten has been giving more details to Midwest Radio's Michael D. McAndrew...
