A recent funding scheme announced for sports clubs nationally to secure a car charging facility at their clubs, is not accessible to many rural clubs, and so is unfair, according to Castlebar Fine Gael councillor Donna Sheridan.
The councillor raised the issue at the monthly meeting of Castlebar Municipal District meeting and she called on Minister Eamon Ryan to review the criteria for clubs to apply for this facility.
Councillor Sheridan said the problem is that many rural clubs cannot meet the requirement to apply under this 15 million euro scheme, as they have, for obvious reasons, no cafes, shops, toilet facilities or public lighting within 500 metre distance from the proposed car charge location.
Councillor Sheridan has been telling Midwest News Editor Teresa O’Malley more about the potentially good scheme, that is not accessible to many rural sport clubs...
