
Traffic is a nightmare at school times in Westport for parents accessing Scoil Phadraig and the Gaelscoil, and a long promised slip road from the golf course road has not been delivered on. That’s according to local councillor Johno O’Malley.
The councillor raised the issue again, at this week’s monthly meeting of West Mayo Municipal District.
He says the slip road, which he describes as essential infrastructure for the town, was promised when councillors approved planning for the development of a new 50 house local authority estate on the Golf Course Road.
The houses are under construction, but the promised slip road is not.
Councillor O’Malley said he accepts that an archaeological report is required for the development of the slip road, but he says it is being cited by council management for the delay for months now, and that is not acceptable.
