
Without additional government funding for local and regional roads in Mayo this year, the county’s basic road infrastructure is facing serious problems, according to Achill based councillor Paul McNamara.
The Fianna Fail councillor, who had raised his concerns over the present poor state of many of the local and regional roads in his area of west Mayo at recent Municipal District meetings, raised the issue directly with Minister Jack Chambers when he was in Mayo on Friday last.
37 million euro was announced last week for local and regional roads in Mayo for 2023 but, in light of present inflation, that figure is far less than is required accorded to councillor McNamara and he insists additional government funding must be secured before the end of this year
