A Mayo student has been shortlisted for "Access Champion of the Year" for the USI Awards later this month.
Catherine Gallagher from Achill rose to prominence in recent months following her campaign to not lose her disability allowance as a result of winning a PhD scholarship.
As a result new regulations to allow students with disabilities to continue claiming State supports while studying for a PhD have been signed into law.
Catherine told Midwest News this evening that she didn't do what she did to win any awards but to pave the way for other students in a similar situation to her.
