
The fourth anniversary of the tragedy that occurred off the north Mayo coastline with the loss of the 4 member crew of Rescue Helicopter 116 occurs this weekend.
The helicopter went down off the coast of Blacksod on March 14th 2017 while on a rescue mission.
The crew that were lost and their families were remembered at today’s county Joint Policing Committee.
Councillor Michael Loftus said it is important to remember the crew members Capt Dara Fitzpatrick, Mark Duffy , Paul Ormsby and Cierán Smith and their families and friends who continue to grieve their losses.
The community response to the tragedy in north Mayo during the recovery operation was also highly commended and remembered, together with the work of the emergency services including the leadership shown by the present Garda Chief Supt Tony Healy based in Erris at that time.
Chief Supt Healy was in attendance at today’s meeting.
