€2.5m in funding has been approved for the extension of the Castlebar Urban Greenway Link project.
This major investment in the town centre will see the completion of the last remaining section of the Lough Lannagh to Turlough Greenway.
It will involve street enhancement, a link to military barracks and the creation of a new public space for outdoor events and markets.
The investment was approved by the Urban Regeneration Development Fund through the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.
Fianna Fail Cllr. Blackie Gavin told Midwest News that this project will keep local jobs in the area and is a welcomed boost for the economy.
