Over €3.2m will be provided by Government and Mayo County Council to allow home adaptations for vulnerable groups in Mayo.
It’s part of the €75m fund for Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People and People with a Disability.
The grants allow recipients to remain living independently for longer and also facilitate an early return from hospital.
Grants of up to €30,000 are available to help people with a disability to readapt their homes, with up to €8,000 to assist older people and up to €6,000 for mobility aids.
80% of the funding comes from the exchequer, with 20% coming from the relevant local authority.
Mayo Fianna Fail Deputy Dara Calleary told Midwest News that this scheme is welcome and will also boost the construction sector locally.
