Irish Water has committed to refurnishing 4km of rusty pipe at Currower, just outside Ballina.
That was confirmed by Cllr John O’Hara, who says the news will be welcomed by some 40 affected residents along the network.
The metal and rust coming off the old steel pipe means the water in the area isn’t fit for human consumption, washing clothes or for showers.
Irish water has given a commitment to refurnish the 4km stretch of pipeline in the former Lough Brohly catchment area.
Cllr O’Hara told Midwest News that works will start locally in the summer, with completion set for December.
