
A boil water notice has come into effect from today on the Achill Public Water Supply.
Irish Water says the boil water notice will be in place for about 6 weeks, while the next phase of planned works are carried out at the Achill water treatment plant.
This means that, from today, about 2,800 customers on Achill Island and the adjacent mainland who are supplied by the public water scheme must boil the water before drinking it or using it to prepare food.
Last August, islanders and visitors to Achill were left without drinking water for four weeks, as a Do Not Consume notice was issued following exceedances of aluminium in the supply, and water was supplied in tankers at a number of locations on the island.
Anthony Skeffington, Regional Operations Manager for Irish Water, has been telling Paula Donnellan about the major problems experienced on the Achill water supply last Summer, and the works now underway to try and resolve the issues.....
