A group of Ballintubber residents insist they will do “whatever it takes” to stop Vodafone Ireland from securing planning permission to erect a 25 meter mast in the middle of the village.
The group say that the local community ‘are up in arms’ at the proposed development by Vodafone Ireland to erect a 25-metre telecoms mast at an Eir exchange the village in Creagh, just off the N84, the main Castlebar to Ballinrobe road.
The planning application for the mast proposes the removal of an existing 13-metre telecommunications support structure to be replaced with a new 25-metre structure carrying antennas, dishes and other associated equipment.
Local resident Paul McCarthy told Midwest News today that they have huge concerns over the visual impact on the area, given its proximity to people’s homes, Ballintubber Abbey and the N84.
He says while they welcome all sorts of developments into their community this one, they unanimously believe is inappropriate.
Midwest News contacted Vodafone Ireland for a spokesperson or a comment on the matter and we are awaiting a response
