Progress on the roll-out of the National Broadband Plan is being made across County Mayo.
That’s according to Fine Gael TD Alan Dillon, who says surveying works in the surrounding townlands of Ballina and Castlebar have now been completed.
Over 4,800 premises around the county will be available for connection to high-speed broadband before Christmas.
National Broadband Ireland expects connections will commence throughout the townlands in the wider Castlebar area from August 2021 to October 2021 with 2,139 premises set for connection.
Connections throughout townlands in the Ballina area will commence from September 2021 to February 2022, with 2,678 premises set to be hooked up to the scheme.
The timeline in the Ballina area is slightly longer as a result of a greater number of premises being connected.
Deputy Dillon is a member of the Public Accounts Committee and has made suggestions aimed at accelerating the rollout to the Communications Minister, Eamon Ryan, such as increasing partnerships with local contractors and commercial providers.
