Some parents with children in the Boys National School in Claremorris have kept their children at home this morning due to concerns over the spread of Covid-19.
The school had intended to close early ahead of the Christmas break after recording at least 12 cases of Covid 19 since the mid-term break.
However, on Friday last, the Department of Education instructed the school to remain open.
Catherine Walsh has a son in second class in the school. She says she is keeping him at home because she is nervous for her family’s elderly grandparents. Her husband is a Type 1 Diabetic. “It makes no sense to send children into a school with a high incidents rate of the virus”.
She knows of eight other parents of second class boys in the school who are keeping their child home today
