5 Mayo communities will have free high-speed internet access at publicly accessible sites available from this afternoon.
At 4.30 this afternoon Mayo County Council and the Department for Rural and Community Development Broadband will virtually launch the first phase of Mayo’s Connected Communities.
It takes place on Mayo.ie’s Facebook Page.
Connected Communities are Broadband Connection Points (BCP) and are a key part of the National Broadband Plan (NBP).
It’s a government initiative, in partnership with Vodafone to provide free high-speed internet access at publicly accessible sites like Community Centres for remote work, study, training, and other digitally enabled services.
The initiative provides communities Vodafone WiFi access connectivity in advance of homes and businesses receiving future-proofed fibre broadband directly to their door.
It will enable people living in the area to go to the selected location and access WiFi for daily use including remote working, e-learning and general access.
These are the 5 community centres in county Mayo that will have their BCP (Broadband Community Point ) live from this (Fri) evening:
Bofeenaun, Clare island, Islandeady , Killasser and Taugheen community centres
