
The number of people in Co Mayo receiving the pandemic unemployment payment has dropped by 200 in the last week.
Latest figures from the Dept of Employment Affairs & Social Protection show that, across Co Mayo, 5,000 people are getting the payment this week - down from a peak of 16,400 in early May at the height of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Nationally , 219 thousand are getting the pandemic unemployment payment this week - down from almost 600 thousand in May.
The top sector in which employees are going back to work this week is education - with 1,500 workers coming off the PUP nationally as the schools re-open.
There are now 11,450 people claiming the payment this week in Co Galway, 2,500 in Sligo and 2,200 in Co Roscommon.
