Three arrests were made in Ballina over the weekend in relation to the organized sale and supply of drugs.
The Mayo Divisional Drugs Unit, along with local based Gardai carried out a number of intelligence based operations in the area, targeting the sale and supply of controlled drugs and organised crime.
Five searches were carried out under warrant on separate properties leading to the arrest and detention of three persons on the suspicion of supplying controlled drugs.
A significant seizure of cocaine and cannabis with a street value in excess of E5, 000 was seized, along with drug paraphernalia and cash, at three different locations.
All three persons were detained at Ballina Garda Station before being released without charge as files are being prepared for the DPP.
The operation was part of the national garda Operation Thor, which has seen a significant increase in the detection of controlled drugs, the seizure of cash and arrest of suspected drug dealers locally.
Superintendent Joe Dohety of Ballina Garda Station considers this weekend’s operation a significant blow to the small number of people supplying drugs in the local area.
He is appealing to the public to report any suspicious activity relating to drug dealing to their local garda station or the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
