The ordination takes place today of the new Bishop of Achonry Fr Paul Dempsey.
The original ordination ceremony, planned for last April, was postponed due to Covid-19 restrictions, but will go ahead this afternoon at 3pm in St Nathy's Cathedral, Ballaghadereen.
Fr Paul Dempsey has moved to Ballaghadereen this week from Newbridge in Co Kildare, where's he served as parish priest since 2015
He was born in Carlow and raised in Athy, Co Kildare and was ordained to the priesthood in 1997.
He has since served as a priest in the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin, and in January this year, Pope Francis announced his appointment as the Bishop of Achonry.
The diocese has been without a bishop for over two years, since Bishop Brendan Kelly was appointed Bishop of Galway.
The Achonry diocese has been administered in the meantime by Fr Dermot Meehan.
This afternoon, Fr Paul Dempsey will be ordained Bishop of Achonry at St Nathy's Cathedral in Ballaghadereen and becomes the youngest Bishop in Ireland at the age of 49.
Numbers attending the event will be strictly limited, due to Covid-19 restrictions.
The new Bishop will take charge of the 23 parishes in diocese, across Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo, and is no stranger to the region as his brother Tony lives in Kiltimagh.
The ordination ceremony was originally planned for 19th April, but was postponed due to the coronavirus lockdown - the rescheduled event now goes ahead at 3 o'clock this afternoon.
