A Roscommon-Galway TD is calling for the establishment of evening and weekend clinics to facilitate ease of access for flu vaccinations.

Independent TD Denis Naugthen believes it is imperative that the Health Minister and the HSE make the vaccine easily accessible for schoolchildren and working families.

The Roscommon–based Deputy believes a population-wide vaccination programme against the flu virus is needed so that the seasonal flu is not mistaken for Covid-19.

Deputy Naughten is not concerned by the two-week delay in the rollout of the flu vaccine because it will still be available by mid-October, ahead of the normal flu season at the start of November.

Deputy Naughten told Midwest News that a large uptake on the flu vaccine will be crucial in making sure it is not mistaken for Covid-19.
