
The Chairman of the Vintners Federation of Ireland in Mayo admits that there are pubs in this region that are not playing by the rules in relation to the serving of food and alcohol under the present Covid 19 regulations, and he clearly states that his members want the book thrown at any and all of these publicans.
But Achill based,Alan Gielty, who runs a pub and restaurant on the island, insists that the majority of publicans are playing by the rules and he argues that not allowing wet pubs to open on Monday will be the death knell for many rural pubs.
The National Public Health Emergency Team recommended last night that pubs that don’t serve food (wet pubs) should remain closed, despite the promised re-opening date of Monday next, August 31ST.
It’s among the items being discussed by the Cabinet today.
The Vintners Federation of Ireland is insisting that the promised rescue package for publicans affected by 6 months of a closure at this stage, must be delivered immediately.
