The new Bishop of Achonry will be ordained on Sunday in Ballaghadereen.
Fr Paul Dempsey, who's served as parish priest of Newbridge in Co Kildare for the past 5 years, will be ordained in St Nathy's Cathedral in a ceremony that was due to take place in April, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
At 49, Fr Paul Dempsey becomes the youngest Bishop in the country.
He will take over the Diocese of Achonry which has 23 parishes across Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo, and is no stranger to the region as his brother Tony lives in Kiltimagh.
Fr Paul was born in Carlow and raised in Athy, Co Kildare and has served as a priest in the Diocese of Kildare & Leighlin since his ordination to the priesthood in 1997.
