Members of the Garda Emergency Response Unit were called in overnight, following a report of an alleged large public order incident in Castlebar.
However, when Gardai arrived at the scene on Lower Charles Street shortly after 1am, no such incident was taking place.
One man was arrested at the scene in connection with minor public order matters.
