Gardai in Castlebar are investigating an incident this afternoon in Castlebar where a dud 20 euro note was presented to a local retailer.
The incident occurred at around 3pm when a girl of about 12 years of age entered the store, bought a euro worth of goods and presented the counterfeit note.
The shop assistant immediately recognised the counterfeit 20 euro and the child ran out of the store where an adult man was waiting for her.
Gardai are advising busineses to remain vigilant in connection with counterfeit currency.
