Michelle Mulherin has today announced that she will not be contesting the upcoming Seanad election.

The outgoing Senator says she has been through a tough general election and has considered a range of circumstances before arriving at her decision that she will not contest the Seanad.

Ms. Mulherin says to be a public representative for the past 21 years has been a fantastic experience.

She told Midwest News this lunchtime that she is disappointed after the General election but is not ruling out a return to politics in the future.
